Grainline Studio Morris Blazer has been in my bucket list for a while, and now for the fall it was the perfect opportunity to make one. The inspiration for my blazer came from this blazer that Mel Burke (Melissa Joan Hart) wore this olive green blazer with contrast black leather sleeves in one of Melissa and Joey episodes.
I love the zipper detail on the sleeve
Pattern
For my version of this blazer, I used Grainline Studio Morris Blazer Pattern.
The blazer was very easy to sew as instructed in the pattern. It took me a few tries to install the zipper, but watching a youtube video in how to install exposed zippers, I figure it out.
I installed the zipper with the closure on the front (as opposed to the one shown above) – I like it like that!
I cut the size 18 (the largest size of the pattern – auch!) and had to enlarge the arm hole (a lot). I also had to do a FBA (bust full adjustment) creating a dart, the original pattern does not have a dart. And I also lengthen the sleeves.
Fabrics & Supplies
For the sleeves, I used Raw Hide Faux Leather in Black. This fabric is perfect for sleeves because it is medium weight and has a 10% stretch. I used my regular needle (#12) and to sew the sleeve hem I had to use tissue paper. (Teflon presser foot didn’t work)
For the body I used twill in olive green. I also liked this fabric for this blazer.
And I used Sport Zipper for the Sleeve, I used 9″, but I would use 12″ instead.
I love my Morris Blazer with Zipper-Leather Sleeves! It is a nice addition to my closet.
