The Brooklyn Bag is a Swoon pattern that comes in two sizes: Handbag Size (11″ wide x 7″ tall x 5″ deep) and Travel Size (16″ wide x ” tall x 10″ deep). It has a classic shape and has side clips that give it a nice and modern look. It is a project easy to sew and you can use faux leather or vinyl for the contrasting details.
The Brooklyn Bag was my third Bag of The Month Club 2016 project. In the Bag of The Month Club you buy a bundle of 6 surprise patterns and you’ll receive 6 patterns, one a month from January – June and It’s a surprise what the pattern is before you receive it! Pattern: Brooklyn Bag by Swoon Patterns
Fabric: I used an Africa Map fat quarter from Joann’s Fabrics and faux leather
Foam Stabilizer: Bosal Sew In Foam Stabilizer
For the handbag size you’ll need a 12″ zipper (you can use nylon coil zippers by the yard and cut it to the size you need) and the bag has an interior zipper pocket. I used a solid aqua fabric for the lining.
The handbag size Brooklyn is a small bag, with the optional strap it can be used as a cross-body bag.
I’m happy in how it turned out and I would sew it again. So far, this is my favorite pattern of the Bag of the Month Club.
The pattern include illustrated sewing instruction that are easy to follow and also nice bag sewing tips.
